HOT WHEELS
Celebrating 50 years
of Hot Wheels
In 1968, a car designer and a rocket scientist were challenged
by Mattel founder Elliot Handler to redesign the wheels on toy
cars so they would roll, and roll fast. Further inspired by one of
the designer’s own custom muscle cars, Handler directed the
team to make them all look as hot as they were fast—and Hot
Wheels was born. Since their creation, approximately 6 billion
Hot Wheels cars have been sold.
CREATIVE COSTCO MEMBERS
Food Court costumes
My name is Lien Mac, and my husband is Andy
Do. We live in San Jose, California. Every year for
Halloween we have a theme for our costumes.
Our friend’s son bought our dog, Mac, a hot
dog costume. We debated on what we could be
to complement it.
We ended up dressing up as a Costco Food
Court meal. Andy was the Pepsi drink, which he
made out of a trash can and felt. I was the pizza
slice, made of paper, and Mac (that was really his
name when we adopted him—it was meant to be!)
was the hot dog.—Lien Mac

are the best ones, except that my

to be unbiased!”—A. Cohen
